burning president nostalgia
Making fires is fun. I wanted so badly to burn my horrible Japanese book, but alas, I still have to use it for the next 3 weeks.
The Presidents of the United States of America @ the Capitol Hill Block Party was pretty cool. It’s a little weird for me cause they were the first CD I actually bought and the first “modern rock”* band I was into. But that was like 5th grade… like 10 years ago.** I never really followed them after that first album cause they broke up and all. I thought they had pretty much disappeared, but I get to Seattle and find they’re still playing and people still actually like them. I don’t really listen to them much anymore, but it was nice being able to remember the words to all their old songs. It seemed like most of the people there were more familiar with the old stuff anyways, which seems kinda backwards for some reason. I dunno, but it was nice summer saturday fun.
* I don’t know, i really don’t like the term modern rock, mostly cause I don’t know what it applies to anymore. I don’t know what to call things. I just use it here in contrast to the stuff I listened to before 5th grade. Disney soundtracks, Country music (it was a phase), the Soft Rock (102.5!) my mom listened to in the car, and my dad’s stuff, mostly from the 50’s. And then there was the stuff my siblings/cousins were into: U2, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, New Order.
** But this is also when my second favorite song was Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise. Hmm. Maybe this is why I’m still so gangsta.
